ITSAC 2027 · Cape Town

About the conference

The 1st Intelligent Transport Systems Africa Conference brings the people who plan, build, regulate and operate transport into one room with the people building the technology that moves it forward. Two days, nine themes, one continent-wide conversation.

9-10 March 2027 · The Lord Charles Hotel · Somerset West, Cape Town

Welcome

A first for the continent

Bringing African transport practice and global intelligent transport expertise onto the same programme.

ITSAC 2027 is the 1st Intelligent Transport Systems Africa Conference. It is a working conference rather than a showcase: two days of plenary and parallel sessions, an exhibition running alongside, and an evening welcome function built for the conversations that do not happen in session rooms. The conference runs under the theme Bridging Continents for Smarter Mobility.

It brings together national, provincial and local government, transport authorities and road agencies, public transport operators, rail, aviation and port authorities, infrastructure owners, technology providers, engineering and consulting firms, universities and research institutions, start-ups, industry associations, investors and development agencies. The common thread is responsibility for how people and goods move.

The technology focus is deliberately broad, because the problems are: intelligent transport systems, connected mobility, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, traffic management, road safety, public transport innovation and sustainable mobility. These are treated as one system rather than as separate disciplines, which is how they arrive in practice for the authority planning a corridor or the operator running a fleet.

The programme opens with an Inaugural Event, delivered in collaboration with ERTICO ITS Europe, the conference content partner. It sets the terms for the two days that follow and connects the African programme to established international intelligent transport practice.

ITSAC 2027 takes place on 9-10 March 2027 at The Lord Charles Hotel, Somerset West, Cape Town. Session-level detail is in development and will be published as it is confirmed. Registration opens closer to the event.

Why this audience matters

Intelligent transport only works when the technology and the mandate meet. A signal system, a tolling platform or a public transport data feed is designed and built by one set of organisations, and planned, procured, operated and paid for by another. When those two groups meet late, projects stall.

ITSAC 2027 puts them in the same programme. Organisations developing intelligent transport technologies sit alongside the authorities, operators and infrastructure owners responsible for planning, procuring, operating and delivering transport solutions, with the researchers, funders and consultants who connect the two. The result is a shorter route from a working idea to a deployed system.
